I believe the DVD will be out on October 11th, according to a friend of Pamela's who is familiar with the release of DVD's.

If people already have the movie on DVD, it is a bootleg and no discussion of how to obtain it is allowed on this board.

Moving thread to the KOH forum

I wonder if that was done on purpose? Elizabethtown is a big hit, so everyone who missed Orlando in KOH wants to buy the KOH DVD to see what they missed ???

Excited!

For me, Christmas/Birthday is all the time cause I get Orlando Bloom stuff all the time. Every day sometimes.

I'm so excited for when it comes out on DVD.

Play.com have got two versions of KOH listed,(UK release 3 Oct) a one disc and a two disc version both have the film at the same length so I doubt either is an extended version.

We (Museum Replicas) will have an ad inside the DVD for our replica items. However, Fox has informed us that the version that they will be offering, though called a "special edition", is EXACTLY the same film which was shown in the theatres. The second disc will have some trailers, and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Nothing earth-shattering.

They also said, when Ridley Scott has time to put together his "director's cut, we will see an extended version. Just as a side note, Gladiator has a "director's cut" coming out in about a month. That will be almost FIVE YEARS since the film was realesed! So, don't hold your breath for the KOH extended version anytime soon.

Thanks Dave I guessed that was the case with the two different versions coming out.

The only hope that I have as to KOH extended appearing sooner than 5 years is that there was a lot of talk during interviews about how the film had been cut that there would be an extended version so the idea is there, that and it seems to be a more common option for film made recently to have extended editions

Don't fret, everyone. This is typical of the DVD industry right now - to first release the theatrical version - and then only later release an extended version.

However, I think the good news is that we WON'T have to wait for 5 years like Gladiator. The DVD industry has changed a lot since Gladiator's original release in 2000, and it seems that more and more directors are planning the extended versions from the outset - bowing to the studios and distributors for "shorter" theatrical versions, but having what would be their actual (longer) versions already "in the can" so to speak, or at least planned - hence much shorter time intervals between releases of the theatrical and extended versions. Interviews with Ridley Scott seem to have implied that this is very much what he has done, and that he went to work on planning the extended version (for DVD release) after KOH's premiere.

As to when the extended version of KOH will come out, the sources I've seen (e.g., www.thedigitalbits.com) have said "2006" - certainly better than a 5 year wait (!) - although the actual timeline depends greatly on how quickly the director and his DVD producers can compile what will most likely be a 3-4 disc version. So let's hope that Ridley is not too busy to get that extended "director's cut" version complete by next year.

P.S. as an aside - wouldn't it be great to have Orlando do a commentary for KOH??

Well we at least have the theatrical version coming in October. I think I can be quite happy with that for a while! Yep, Orlando commentary, wouldn't that just be awesome? and he might even do more talking than he did in the movie!

Hey, luv - I see you are located in my neck of the woods. KOH is still playing down here in Milpitas; I'm always game for going one more time... Going tonight in fact (#23)... you're welcome to email me...

'Kingdom' DVD for DIY documentary makers

By Thomas K. Arnold

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - When "Kingdom of Heaven" comes out on DVD on Oct. 11, viewers will be able to create their own documentary on the making of the film, a box office disappointment that grossed slightly less than $46 million in theaters despite an all-star cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons.

Working with director Ridley Scott's production company, Scott Free Prods., Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment created an interactive production grid that allows viewers to assemble their choice of 16 custom documentaries, ranging in length from eight minutes to 90 minutes and based on their own interests.

"We wanted to try to something new," said DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika, who produces all of Scott's DVDs. "I don't know if others will want to do it down the road, but I thought it was a nice one-time experiment to see how it works."

At the main menu, viewers will see a grid "that gives you the power to tailor your documentary to your liking," Lauzirika said. "If, for example, you want to know what the director did in preproduction, you click one button, or if you want to see what the cast did during postproduction, you click on that button.

"If you want to see what the director did during the whole filming of the movie, you can filter out everything else and just get the director's perspective -- or the timeline, or what they all did in preproduction."

Die-hard fans of the film, Lauzirika said, "can just hit play and see the whole thing."

Lauzirika has produced more than 20 DVDs, beginning with "Hannibal" in 2001.

The "Kingdom of Heaven" DVD, which will retail for $29.98, also features five hours of other bonus materials, including a streaming text commentary with historical notes about the Crusades, an A&E "Movie Real" feature titled "History vs. Hollywood," and interviews with Bloom and Scott.

After several days I am adding this: At $30 (a very steep price, I think), I probably will content myself with renting the DVD for the purpose of Balian oogling until the EE version comes out, hopefully in 2006. At such a steep price, I doubt if they will sell very many copies. Too bad.

its prolly not really $30 leggy. thats the retail price. when i look through sale ads and stuff on sunday morning, there are special first week sale prices for movies and cds. most of them are around $14-$20 so im pretty sure the theatrical koh dvd isnt $30. im gonna just buy it. i cant wait til 2006 for an EE.

No question for me about getting the theatrical DVD; no way can I wait for an EE! Cost-wise, I'm sure I'll get more than my money's worth out of it!
